This is an exciting time for a career in Chemistry or Biochemistry as your classroom experiences can provide you a gateway to scientific research in many different areas. Undergraduate research is one way that students can enrich their learning experience at Arizona State University by applying knowledge learned in classrooms to address new questions and problems in Chemistry and Biochemistry. There is no better way to prepare for careers in the sciences than to participate in undergraduate research. Undergraduate research provides a setting in which students:

  • Apply textbook knowledge for scientific inquiry
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Cultivate creativity
  • Work collaboratively with faculty mentors
  • Experience the excitement of scientific discovery
  • Use state-of-the-art equipment
  • Publish results in scientific journals
  • Present results at scientific meetings
  • Receive college credit

The Department is involved in cutting-edge research that ranges from traditional chemistry to interdisciplinary work. Undergraduates can chose to explore several different opportunities in the department:

Students can also work with scientists outside of the department in areas such as; the Barrow Neurological Institute, Biodesign Institute, Department of Kinesiology, Mayo Clinic, or School of Life Sciences, where they can pursue research in other related disciplines, including:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Biomedicine
  • Genomics
  • Human biology
  • Kinesiology
  • Physics
