There is no better way to prepare for work or graduate study in the sciences than to participate in undergraduate research. It serves to provide a setting in which to learn how to use textbook knowledge for scientific inquiry, how to develop critical thinking skills, how to cultivate creativity, as well as to provide the opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement of scientific discovery.
You can do cutting-edge research, publish your results in international journals, and attend scientific conferences while receiving college credit. You can get hands-on experience with millions of dollars of state-of-the-art research and computational equipment. We encourage our students to participate in this activity.
Students who are interested in pursuing research should approach faculty whose research is of interest to them to ask about joining their research projects. Tasks required by undergraduate research vary widely and are based on an individual agreement between you and your faculty supervisor. Students may receive credit by registering for either CHM 392 or BCH 392, either of which can be utilized towards fulfilling the elective requirements of the Chemistry and Biochemistry majors. You must have prior approval from your faculty sponsor to obtain the schedule line number required when registering for these courses.
