A Tradition of Creative Interdisciplinary Research

Interdisciplinary Research and creative work at the boundaries of traditional chemical disciplines was the visionary mission championed by the first Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Arizona State University. This goal has been enthusiastically supported by a faculty that often shares appointments in other campus departments and research centers. Together with strong support for the traditional areas of chemistry, this early commitment to interdisciplinary research has uniquely positioned Arizona State to provide a research environment appropriate to the 21st century.

Here you will find a brief tour of some selected accomplishments that we feel give a flavor of the Research Environment in the Department. These range from studies of the most fundamental and basic aspects of atomic structure and molecular properties, through applications of chemical synthesis in drug design to design and characterization of complex artificial and natural biological systems.
