Pictures of Atomic Orbitals
We have all seen pictures of atomic and molceular orbitals in textbooks. Those pictures are generated either simply as artists impressions, or as a result of computer calculations. Observations of actual orbitals are very rare! However, using a unique electron scattering method, ASU Chemistry and Biochemistry Professor Michael
O'Keeffe and Physics Professor John Spence obtained pictures of the orbitals of the Copper-Oxygen bonds in the mineral cuprite.
