Chemistry at the Depths of the Earth and Oceans!
ASU Professor John Holloway leads a group studying the complex chemistry and geochemistry that occurs in hydrothermal "black smoker" vents on the ocean floor (shown in the picture). These vents are characterized by large gradients in temperature, redox conditions, pH and other fluid chemistry that result in formation of a diverse range of minerals and mineral structures.
