Doug Burkett has been chosen as a CLAS leader for 2005

Doug Burkett, Ph.D. in chemistry, 1994

Chairman, chief executive officer and president, Zila Inc.

Doug Burkett joined Zila an innovator in preventative healthcare technologies and products in 1995 as director of research, development and manufacturing. In June 2002, he was appointed president and chief executive officer, and in September 2002, he also was named chairman. Phoenix-based Zila Inc. has garnered significant national media attention this year for its ViziLite oral-cancer screening device, and the firm received FDA approval in February for a new cancer-detection agent that Burkett developed when he first joined Zila. Cheryl Shavers was invited as the guest speaker at the department Commencement Reception

Cheryl Shavers, B.S., chemistry 1976; Ph.D., solid state chemistry 1981

Dr. Shavers was invited to the Spring2006 Chemistry & Biochemistry Commencement Reception (5/11/2006). She shared her vast experience in business, industry and government with the newly graduated students. At the reception, department chair Dr. Blankenship presented her with the official "Grad of ASU Chemistry and Biochemistry" T-Shirt.
