Lux Research
Analyst Boston, MA and San Francisco, CA

Analysts are the bedrock of the Lux Research team, conducting the primary and secondary research that powers the firms' research reports and consulting engagements. Analysts spend most of their time conducting primary research interviews with executives, researchers, and thought leaders; chasing down data points; analyzing quantitative data; concocting creative ways to present data and ideas visually; and helping manage the operations of a rapidly-growing, geographically-dispersed team. Analysts take on significant client-facing responsibilities commensurate with their experience and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of expert Analysts and Senior Analysts to develop and test research hypotheses and prepare findings for clients.
  • Conduct primary interviews for written research reports, including developing and executing sets of interviews with senior-level executives at large corporations, technology start-ups, and other organizations.
  • Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including business and trade press, academic publications, patent filings, and conference presentations.
  • Produce written research reports, including creative visual depictions of data and ideas.
  • Manage client deliverables and interactions. • Help develop and launch new client service offerings.
  • Develop a network of contacts and relationships among business and scientific leaders in emerging technologies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years work or postgraduate experience with a background or experience in one or more of the following: materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace/aeronautics engineering, or biomedical engineering
  • Deep intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies.
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to meet client needs in a fast-moving, rapidly growing, startup environment.
  • Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, collegial, and collaborative approach to work.
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to write clearly and incisively about business and technical topics.
  • Superior listening and critical thinking skills, and ability to speak articulately and think on your feet; a good sense of humor is a major plus.
  • Strong analytical skill, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • A strong record of academic achievement. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Mandarin or Korean is a huge plus; Western European or Middle Eastern language skills are also desirable.
  • Excellent office software skills and ability to touch type

Lux Research
Research Associate Boston, MA and San Francisco, CA

The Research Associate role is an entry-level position on the Lux Research team. Research Associates map the landscape of innovation in emerging technologies to help clients make better decisions about investments, partnerships, and strategy. They spend most of their time identifying and analyzing patents, scientific publications, and financial transactions, drawing on this work to develop and maintain a structured database. Research Associates also manage the process of inviting companies and research labs to brief the Lux Research team, and help to produce the weekly Lux Research Journal intelligence service.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including business and trade press articles, scientific publications, patent filings, and conference presentations.
  • Maintain a pipeline of briefings with senior executives at innovative companies as well as leaders of cutting-edge university and government labs.
  • Author descriptive documents that profile the emerging technology activities of start-up companies, large corporations, and research laboratories.
  • Assist with the production of research reports and other client deliverables.
  • Help manage the operations of a rapidly-growing, geographically-dispersed team.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with outstanding record of academic achievement and a major in the physical sciences, engineering, or operations research. One to two years of work experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple tasks.
