Financial Support

Graduate students are supported through either teaching or research assistantships at a rate of $17,355 for an academic (9 month) year.  Incoming students are also given a summer graduate assistantship stipend of $5,785, yielding a total salary of $23,140 in the first year (2004/2005).

After the first year, students are guaranteed support during the academic year for an additional four years via teaching and/or research assistantships, contingent upon satisfactory progress in the program. Summer research and teaching assistantships are also available. Research assistantships usually come from faculty grants, although some departmental and college research assistantships are also available on a competitive basis.

Graduate College Scholarships, Fellowships, and Awards

Highly qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for a graduate fellowship from the National Science Foundation in the beginning of their senior college year. The submission deadline for NSF Graduate Fellowship applications is generally in early November.

Tuition

Current tuition rates for our resident and non-resident graduate students is $2,519/semester (2004-2005) academic year.

Residents:
The current student tuition rate is $2,733/semester. TAs and RAs with half-time (20 hours per week) appointments receive a 100% waiver (or remission) of the resident tuition.

Non-residents:
Non-resident students with TA or RA appointments pay tuition at the resident rate. This is done solely for the purpose of having all graduate research and teaching assistants subject to the same tuition and fees, regardless of residency status. The value of this benefit for non-resident students is $7,324/semester.
