2007 Homecoming Reception
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosted its 2nd Annual Homecoming Reception on Oct 25, 2007 at the University Club. During the reception, the department chair Dr. William Petuskey acknowledged many of our alumni's contribution to the department and reported faculty research achievement. Alumni, faculty and staff also celebrated the retirement of Jack Fuchs, John Holloway and Dan Brune.

| Ed Trujillo (Chemistry' 67) and Nelson( PhD. Chemistry '90) have been chosen the 2006-2007 CLAS Alumni Leadership Council members. Ed Trujillo is the Secretary of the Executive Committee, and Randy Nelson is one of the Directors-at- Large.

2006 Homecoming Reception
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry 2006 Homecoming Reception was held on Oct 20 at the University Club. Alumni, faculty, staff and members from the Chemistry Graduate Student Council attended the event. Dr. William Petuskey, Interim Departmental Chair, announced the Wayne Lsinger Scholarship and gave updates on the Department’s growth. All alumni received official “Graduate of ASU Chemistry & Biochemistry” T-Shirts.
This is the first departmental annual event for alumni. The Department has decided to make this as a new tradition to link our alumni.

Doug Burkett has been chosen as a CLAS leader for

Doug Burkett, Ph.D. in chemistry, 1994
Chairman, chief executive officer and president, Zila Inc.
Doug Burkett joined Zila, an innovator in preventative healthcare technologies and products, in 1995 as director of research, development and manufacturing. In June 2002 he was appointed president and chief executive officer, and in September 2002 he also was named chairman. Phoenix-based Zila Inc. has garnered signficant national media attention this year for its ViziLite oral-cancer screening device, and the firm received FDA approval in February for a new cancer-detection agent that Burkett developed when he first joined Zila. Steve Griffin Helps Make Surgery Safer

In the world of surgery, there’s a revolution under way that equates to less pain, shorter recovery times and reduced expense. Surgical patients can thank CLAS alumnus Steve Griffin, in part, for such advancements. Griffin, who earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from ASU in 1984 and later completed the coursework for a chemistry Ph.D., is the founder of InnovaQuartz, a company that makes fused silica capillaries and optical fibers for medical and industrial applications. full story...
